W. R. Hedrick, PhD

D. L. Hykes, MS

Radiology Department, Aultman Hospital, Canton, Ohio, the Radiology Department, St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center, Lorain, Ohio; Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Rootstown, Ohio.

Photographic recording of representative images from a diagnostic ultrasound examination documents clinical findings. Geometric distortion can be introduced into the hardcopy image by the image-recording device. Size, shape, and relative positions of structures are not accurately portrayed. Illustrative examples of distortion produced by improperly adjusted hardcopy cameras are presented. Testing methods for distortion are described.

Key Words: distortion • aspect ratio • hardcopy camera • quality control
